Enid Blyton, geb. 1897 in London, begann im Alter von 14 Jahren, Gedichte zu schreiben. Bis zu ihrem Tod im Jahre 1968 verfasste sie über 700 Bücher und mehr als 10.000 Kurzgeschichten, die in über 40 Sprachen übersetzt wurden. Bis heute gehört Enid Blyton zu den meistgelesenen Kinderbuchautoren der Welt und mit den 'Fünf Freunden' hat sie die bekanntesten Helden aller Zeiten geschaffen.
