Klappentext
An international art project on migration.
To migrate is to cross, but also to be crossed: by fear, by hope, by memory. Crossing Borders is a project that stems from this notion and from openness to the Other. Claire Fontaine, Yuri Ancarani, Paolo Pellegrin, Francesco Vezzoli, Loredana Longo, and Adrian Ghenie, employing different artistic approaches - from light installations to oil on canvas, by way of performance - have narrated a timeless journey. Invited by Alessandra Borghese and the Fondazione Ghenie Chapels to inhabit the public space of the Aula Magna of the University of Palermo, the artists took up the challenge and engaged in a dialogue with the university and the city community.
This book records the making of a temporary collection. Words and works on paper, meant to continue the journey in the mind of the reader. The volume features Claire Fontaine's work I sommersi e i salvati (The Drowned and the Saved), which draws inspiration from Primo Levi's book and reflects on the themes of memory and migration. This work was followed by IP OP by Yuri Ancarani, the photographic triptych La pietà di Gaza by Paolo Pellegrin, the mosaic Il viaggio di Enea (sunt lacrimae rerum) by Francesco Vezzoli, and the sculpture VICTORY by Loredana Longo - works commissioned by the Ghenie Chapels Foundation and created specifically for the project. These works were joined by The Raft 2, a piece created by Adrian Ghenie in 2019 and inspired by The Raft of the Medusa by the Romantic painter Théodore Géricault.
