Black Women's Gardens as Art and Practice examines the multifaceted ways in which gardens have served-and continue to serve-as sites of artistic expression, activism, and self-care for African American women. Moving from antebellum "patch gardens" to present-day marijuana cultivation, the eleven essays of this interdisciplinary volume illustrate how gardens and the craft of gardening have sustained Black women for generations. They also illuminate how gardens have served as liminal spaces between Black women's public and private lives.
