Anthony Burgess, geboren 1917 in Manchester, studierte und unterrichtete englische Literatur. Er komponierte, schrieb Libretti, Essays, Drehbücher, Sachbücher, Übersetzungen und ungefähr dreißig Romane. Burgess starb 1993 in London.
