The monograph addresses the role of conceptual blending in creating novel meanings in religious systems by exploring pastoral metaphors as meaning generators in early Christian discourse through a lens of Conceptual Blending Theory. It shows that such metaphors allowed early Christian authors to conceptualize and convey a great number of social, moral and theological ideas, thus becoming indispensable building blocks of a new religious system.
