Biografie (Edward Gorey)

Edward Gorey, geboren 1925 in Chicago. Im knöchellangen Pelzmantel wurde der Artdirector des Verlags Doubleday and Co. zum stadtbekannten New Yorker Exzentriker. Weltbekannt machten ihn seine Bildergeschichten. Die Ehrungen seines Werks reichten vom Deutschen Jugendbuchpreis bis zum Verbot durch das österreichische Innenministerium wegen Pornographie. Der Ballettomane Gorey verließ New York, als sein Lieblingstänzer Balanchine in Rente ging. Bis zu seinem Tod im April 2000 lebte er zurückgezogen auf Cape Cod.
