Biografie
Sir Martin Rees, geboren 1942, gilt als einer der weltweit führenden Astronomen. Er ist Professor der Royal Society an der Universität von Cambridge und trägt den Titel "Astronomer Royal" (Königlicher Astronom). Daneben ist er u.a. Mitglied der National Academy of Sciences der Vereinigten Staaten und der russischen Akademie der Wissenschaften. Zusammen mit einigen Gleichgesinnten in England und den USA hat er zahlreiche grundlegende Ideen zu Schwarzen Löchern, der Entstehung von Galaxien sowie weiteren Themen der Astrophysik geliefert. Er war Präsident der British Association for the Advancement of Science und gehört zu jenen Wissenschaftlern, die stets die weiter gehenden Auswirkungen ihrer Arbeit im Blick behalten. Martin Rees hält häufig Vorträge und veröffentlichte zahlreiche Schriften für ein breites Publikum.
