Während Coltrane zunächst durch seine revolutionäre "sheets of sound"-Technik bekannt wurde, war es die tiefe Spiritualität seiner Musik, die seine Soloalben zu Klassikern machte. Die Alben, die dieser Gigant der Musik 1959 und 1960 für Atlantic aufnahm, sind das Herzstück seines Vermächtnisses.
Coltranes Sessions für Atlantic im späten Oktober 1960 waren sehr produktiv und ergaben das Material für My Favorite Things, Coltrane Plays the Blues und Coltrane's Sound.
Als eines der weniger bekannten Alben von Coltrane, bei dem der Pianist McCoy Tyner, der Bassist Steve Davis und der Schlagzeuger Elvin Jones mitwirkten, ist dieses Set sehr zu empfehlen.
