Aufgenommen hat die Band das Album in ihrer Heimat Glasgow und im Londoner Studio ihres Produzenten Dan Carey (u. a. Hot Chip, Emilia Torrini, Kylie Minogue, Lily Allen). Dessen Background und Faible für Dub, Reggae und Breakbeats haben dem Groove Franz Ferdinands sehr gut getan. Darüber hinaus verteidigt das Quartett mit wunderbaren Popmelodien, abwechslungsreichen Songs sowie einer hörbaren Spielfreude seinen Sonnenplatz auf dem Brit-Pop-Olymp. Bereits die erste Single-Auskopplung »Ulysses« beweist erneut das Hit-Potential der Jungs um Sänger Alex Kapranos.
