Featuring: Sergi Sirvent (p), Marc Cuevas (b), Ramon Prats (d)KARION is the name of the trio formed by Sergi Sirvent (piano), Ramon Prats (drums) and Marc Cuevas (double bass). The band was formed for a very special project: to record the soundtrack of the silent film 'Mother' based on Maxim Gorky's book with the same name and directed by Vsevolod Pudovkin at the beginning of the 20st century. The DVD has been released also on the Fresh Sound label in the series called Silence Revisited.
Sergi Sirvent was asked to compose and arrange the themes for this silent movie. Almost all of the compositions are originals and were created in the moment of the recording, freely improvised departing from an idea and also interplaying with the images of the film. The recording sessions were a very special experience for the musicians, as they were recorded while watching the film at the same time.
Even though Karion is performing both live to the projection of the film and without the film. Specially now with the new CD coming out, Karion will offer concerts with new compositions. When playing with the film, Marie Perera on violin is joining the Trio as a special guest. (freshsoundrecords. com)
